Adrien Blouët, born in 1992, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and then at the Offshore School in Shanghai. He discovered anthropology, which led him to writing. He then chose to focus on fiction. His first novel, L’Absence de ciel, was published by Notabilia in 2019 and shortlisted for the Prix du premier roman and the Prix Envoyé par la poste 2019. Adrien Blouët drew inspiration from his extended stays in Japan and China for his next two novels, Les immeubles de fer (Notabilia, 2021), winner of the 2022 Prix Écrire la Ville, and How not to Become a Travel Writer (Notabilia, 2024; Payot Rivages, 2025), a novel in which he deconstructs the myth of the travel writer with a healthy dose of self-deprecation, for which he was awarded a residency at the Ian Michalski Foundation in 2022. In 2025, he was awarded the Marguerite Yourcenar residency. He is also a translator from Japanese.
