New York Review Books acquired two titles by Chilean writer Gonzalo Maier (represented on behalf of Minuscula): “Leer y dormir” and “El libro de los bolsillos”. Editor Alex Andriesse said about the books: “These are surprising, digressive, often balletic short texts, forging crónicas with the tradition of the English essay from William Hazlitt and G.K. Chesterton to Phillip Lopate and Geoff Dyer. The result is something very special: short books of short essays that linger a long time in the that linger a long time in the mind. Maier is the kind of writer who can’t help but turn a walk around the block—or a quick search of his own pockets—into a meditation on existence.” |
